When you photograph outside, you don’t usually have to use a flash, and it makes the subjects much more colourful and vibrant. A BIG part of our photography is in Studio Commercial Photography, and we do this for a very varied array of customers, one day we could be shooting gift baskets or scooters and the next day (or in some cases the same day) it might be new biscuit lines or even bags of poo, cow manure that is! Commercial photography done in the studio lets us totally control the lighting and product placement, in a lot of cases this is deep etched which sees the shadows and the background removed from the images in post production (and on camera) – our customers have very specific requirements and these can differ from client to client, plus some products can be very difficult to photograph – like shiny or stainless steel products, so the studio lets us control all of the conditions, where is outdoors you are somewhat at the mercy of the available light. Each year Linda and I get to travel together to one of the remote Supercar and Aussie Racing Car events, last year we went to Sydney Motorsport Park, but this year we decided to go to the most remote event for the Aussie Cars, Perth, Western Australia for our Motorsport Photography. Wednesday morning saw us head off to Perth, the trip over is a 6-hour flight (the trip home is 4 hours 15mins, go figure), luckily, we had a row to ourselves, so three movies later we are there. We rented a house in beautiful Scarborough Beach, it’s usually beautiful but for the moment it’s a huge construction site, not to worry the restaurants are still great. Garry O’Brien from Auto Action stayed with us as well, so just a few beers each night! Linda and I headed out to the circuit Wednesday afternoon, Barbagello is a pretty great place to photograph at, it’s got everything, long straights, plenty of hills and action close to us and the crowd. The power of a great testimonial can be hard to judge, sometimes you think the best ones will ring in the referrals and sometimes just a simple one-liner will. As a photographer you have probably been told, even had drummed into you from your peers or maybe a mentor that you should have as many testimonials as you can get. We have, from many! We do subscribe to the notion that testimonials are good for your business, and of course your ego! 😉 But do Testimonials actually get read? Its a great question and one we’ve pondered for some time, we even searched on the interwebs to find out, Google didn’t really help much! What we have found and its been through asking friends, family and peers, so its by no means a scientific answer, the answer was yes, yes they do, however we found that if there are anymore than 3-5 of them they read the first 3, maybe jump a few read another then go on to make a decision (if there is a decision to be made). We’ve written about this before and I think its a great time to bring it up again as its the New Year. As photographers should we Blog or Not Blog? We are firm believers in blogging for photography, as a photographer we want to share as much of our work as possible. In 2016 we blogged around 10% of our work, it was one of our failings for the year, or better described as one of our “lessons learned”. When we took the time to blog about our shoots we gained quite a bit of traffic on our website, we had enquires from new customers, we gained more traction on our Social Media. This year, 2017 we are determined to Blog 100% of our shoots, be that Real Estate, commercial or motorsport work, even our Training Courses. Its quite easy to have a blog, but don’t get confused from posting on Social media like Facebook and think oh that’ll do for my Blog, whilst Facebook is a good platform and we do publish our work there, it could be gone tomorrow and all your work will be gone with it! WOW we are having so much fun with the Pets coming into our Forest Lake Photography Studio. This Christmas we decided to run some Pet Christmas Photos and the response has been fantastic, we weren’t sure what to expect, and whilst we’ve photographed many pets they’ve always been outdoors. Having the dogs, cats and birds (yes we had a 20 year old Cockatiel in today!) come to the our Studio at the Forest Lake Shopping Centre has been the best idea yet! We’ve had the studio setup with the Black background with both plain and Christmas scenes. Plus the Christmas Tree is looking splendid for the food collection we are doing for the RSPCA. We still have some spots before Christmas open, plus we’ll next Year be offering our specialist pet photography Full Time. Many will know that we have just opened a brand new Photography Studio in the Forest Lake Shopping Centre Professional Suites, and over the Easter break we spent 3 days painting the new photography studio, so to kick it off we then photographed the most dirtiest product you could do, short of dirt!………..Mulch!
