When you photograph outside, you don’t usually have to use a flash, and it makes the subjects much more colourful and vibrant. It is essential to make sure the sun is behind you so it is lighting up your subjects from the front or partial side. 5 Tracks 4 Weeks 4 States

Its been a little while since my last blog post and with the busiest start to a racing year ever I thought it would be a good time to put down a few words along with some hot motorsport photography shots, oh and a Scallop Pie! So for 2018 we have elected to make this our biggest year in motorsport photography.  Last year was full on with the Aussie Racing Cars and our Supercars commitments (and we have both again this year), to add to the mix I had 10 days away in Mexico at the F1GP and with Matt Campbell in the Porsche SuperCup, it was a mind blowing trip, so amazing and capped with Matt winning both the Porsche events. A second retreat for 2017

Couran Cove 2017 (Visit this page: Couran Cove Photography Retreat 2017) So at the beginning of the year we looked at our commitments to our photography like Real Estate, Commercial and Motorsport and pretty much decided we didn’t have time to run a Training Retreat like what we’ve done in the past, let alone a second retreat! Then the opportunity to run a Winter Weekend Retreat came up and we couldn’t miss the chance, so this weekend just gone we had 16 photographers join us for a pretty amazing weekend, they all did so well and we had a ball running it. Here are a couple of quick images from the weekend.   And so when we were preparing for this event writing up our notes for different sessions another opportunity came about for a Second Retreat for 2017.  (Yes we did say we were running just one event this year!) In Studio Commercial Photography

A BIG part of our photography is in Studio Commercial Photography, and we do this for a very varied array of customers, one day we could be shooting gift baskets or scooters and the next day (or in some cases the same day) it might be new biscuit lines or even bags of poo, cow manure that is! Commercial photography done in the studio lets us totally control the lighting and product placement, in a lot of cases this is deep etched which sees the shadows and the background removed from the images in post production (and on camera) – our customers have very specific requirements and these can differ from client to client, plus some products can be very difficult to photograph – like shiny or stainless steel products, so the studio lets us control all of the conditions, where is outdoors you are somewhat at the mercy of the available light.  Thats not to say we don’t shot them outdoors as well, just when required. Perth Trek for Motorsport Photography

Each year Linda and I get to travel together to one of the remote Supercar and Aussie Racing Car events, last year we went to Sydney Motorsport Park, but this year we decided to go to the most remote event for the Aussie Cars, Perth, Western Australia for our Motorsport Photography. Wednesday morning saw us head off to Perth, the trip over is a 6-hour flight (the trip home is 4 hours 15mins, go figure), luckily, we had a row to ourselves, so three movies later we are there. We rented a house in beautiful Scarborough Beach, it’s usually beautiful but for the moment it’s a huge construction site, not to worry the restaurants are still great. Garry O’Brien from Auto Action stayed with us as well, so just a few beers each night! Linda and I headed out to the circuit Wednesday afternoon, Barbagello is a pretty great place to photograph at, it’s got everything, long straights, plenty of hills and action close to us and the crowd.
